John Danby Racing was founded in 2002 and quickly established itself as a leading race team and engineering organisation.
At John Danby Racing, you’ll find a selection of iconic and rare race cars from the 20th century, including Group C cars, Super Tourers, Formula 1® cars, saloon cars, GT cars, and sportscars – all still actively racing in the UK and worldwide.
From our impressive facility in Colchester, Essex, John Danby Racing have prepared, run and won with cars in a variety of national and international events such as the Masters Historic, Motor Racing Legends, PeterAuto, Le Mans Classic, Silverstone Festival, Monaco Historic Grand Prix, Goodwood Members’ Meeting, Goodwood Revival, Gulf Historic, Classic Touring Car Racing Club (CTCRC) – plus more.
Having operated among the highest levels of historic motorsport and classic racing more than twenty years, we are familiar with the rules, regulations, logistical demands and necessary administration associated with such series.
Aside from our race car preparation and trackside support geared up to put your car at the sharp end of the field, our experienced team of technicians specialise in various mechanical and engineering disciplines, enabling us to offer a range of complementary services in-house. John Danby Racing prepare, set-up, engineer, and repair (where necessary) race cars to the highest standards, whilst meeting the required regulations and homologations – including any essential maintenance and desired upgrades to engine, gearbox, bodywork, and electrical systems – allowing our customers to relax and focus on their racing.

With a depth of engineering knowledge JDR specialises in bespoke engineering projects ranging from modern to historic vehicle builds, to component design, development and manufacture.
Trackside Support
John Danby Racing have specialist knowledge, experienced personnel and necessary equipment, having supported and run race cars, including historic Formula 1 cars, Group C cars, supertourers, classic saloon cars, modern GT cars, historic sportscars, amongst others in the most competitive grids around the world, including PeterAuto, Monaco Historic Grand Prix, Gulf Historic GP Revival, Goodwood Members’ Meeting, Goodwood Revival, Masters Historic, Motor Racing Legends, CSCC, CTCRC and many, many more.
We can also provide trackside support for test days and track days
Race Car Restoration
At John Danby Racing, we don’t believe any restoration project is too ambitious.
Whether your race car simply requires stripping, servicing, and rebuilding – or if it requires obsolete parts sourcing or even designing and manufacturing to complete the project, John Danby Racing team can restore your race car back to its period specification.
Using our access to motorsport archives and chosen graphics supplier, we can even return your car to its period livery.
Electronics & Programming
From their dedicated in-house facility, John Danby Racing offers motorsport wiring solutions; including design, assembly and programming for classic and modern race cars, track day cars and sports cars.
Race Car Preparation
JDR have extensive expertise in racecar preparation and setup for maximum competitiveness at all levels of motorsport. We can also provide driver management and coaching programs for all round improvement.
Historic Road and Rally

Machining & Fabrication

We specialise in designing, engineering and producing quality motorsport components and bespoke parts for race cars. We work within strict tolerances and tight deadlines to ensure that our customers receive outstanding products that improve the drivability or usability of a race car.
